Report:

Since a few years you can find so called “bamboo textiles” at the german textile and clothing market, which were distributed with a wrong textile labeling. In general textile labeling is regulated through the textile labeling law (TKG) but in this case it is often not considered. In the past this consistently led to warnings. Thus the Industry Association Chemical Fibre (IVC), the Fashion Association Germany (GermanFashion) and also the Federal Association of the german textile and retail trade attended to the topic to minimise the uncertainties with the labeling of such textiles for the trade market.

Concretly warned were those textile labelings which suggest the consumer that the textiles would be partly produced of the untreated natural fibre bamboo. Realised analyses have even shown that in none of the “bamboo textiles” real bamboo fibres but viscose fibres were used. So the commonly used labeling “XX % bamboo” turned out to be a clear contravention because the textile labeling law dictates for this purpose the labeling “XX % viscose”.
